Greenhouse Loft Chicago Wedding Venue
The Space
Greenhouse Loft is a white, industrial, modern, Chicago wedding venue located in between Bucktown and Avondale in Chicago. Its main space is known as the loft and the guest capacity is 175 guests for a seated reception, 125 guests for a seated reception with a band, or 200 guests for a cocktail-style reception.
The main loft space is where you host most of your wedding day - it is 3,600 square feet and is known for the large windows and the light, airy space with the light, natural woods and white ceiling and fixtures.
The art gallery is mainly used for cocktail hour to be able to flip the space easily if your ceremony is in the loft. It’s a great spot that isn’t far from the main space or restrooms that gives a little more character to the venue as a whole that we love! It is 2,000 square feet and is perfect for a cocktail-style with lounge seating already in the room.
We also love the 5,000 square foot outdoor skygarden that can be used for an outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour, or photos. It’s a space with astroturf on the grounds, which means that it looks photo-ready no matter the season!
There are plenty of ways to structure your wedding day in this beautiful venue. If you want to see some examples of how your wedding day might go, here are some example floor plans with multiple setups and guest counts. You can also do a virtual tour of the space if you want to see more of it “in person” before going to see the space for yourself.
There are also key features that you won’t find at any other venue that are included here - the in-house DJ that is included in the rental cost is surely the most incredible! We have worked with Style Matters DJs often in and out of this space and they are incredible at getting the dance floor packed the whole night, so you are surely in great hands.
Another thing that is included that you won’t find in many other spaces is a vintage photo booth - it is SO cute for photos and it has both photo strips and a digital gallery you get after the wedding!
The last thing that is unique to this space is are the 2 HD projectors that can post information about your wedding and photos. The best part about this though is the venue has their own graphic design team that will make the screens for you! You can submit photos, your seating chart, after party information, and more and they will project it on a large wall for your guests to see that is super unique and personalized to you.

About Greenhouse Loft
Greenhouse Loft was originally a knitting mill for Vassar Swiss Underwear Company’s knitting mill built in 1913. In 1967, the building was bought to house Fredrick Cooper Lamps and was a manufacturing company until 2005. It was vacant for some time until it was recently remodeled to host events and weddings.
Greenhouse Loft is an event space that started hosting events and weddings around 2011. It is one of three Chicago wedding venues owned by Spencer Lokken who operates The Ovation Group. All three spaces have similar structures and vibes and also have very similar features, so if you’re looking for other industrial, modern, Chicago wedding venues, it’s definitely worth checking them out. The Ovation Group is also the owner of Style Matters DJs and String Theory which is a collective of musicians that are the in-house DJ for the space.
Greenhouse Loft is one of many venues that are part of the Sustainable Events Collective - previously known as the Green Wedding Alliance - which is a wedding industry sustainability collective that prioritizes green and eco-conscious methods. They have many ways they focus on a eco-friendly experience for your wedding day such as water-efficient toilets, restored mid-century, modern furniture, and their onsite recycling systems.

Flow
Most weddings at Greenhouse Loft will begin offsite to get ready at the nearest hotels such as Hyatt Place Chicago Wicker Park. The venue is open at 12pm for setup and if you’re having a Friday wedding wedding can only begin at 6pm or later.
You can have your ceremony with multiple orientations, but in our opinion it is best with the ceremony altar in the loft in the “back corner” so that you can walk down the aisle with a straight walk. We love that the wedding suite has its own hall that wraps around the building, so you can hide out in the suite and come around for the processional without fear of your guests seeing you before the ceremony! The venue is also pet-friendly which is a nice perk that not all Chicago wedding venues allow. If you are doing your wedding ceremony outside, the door is in the same hall that your guests would go for an indoor ceremony which makes it easy regardless of if it’s indoors or outdoors.
During the ceremony, the reception tables are usually set in the dancing area with curtains blocking it so that your guests can focus on the ceremony. When you’ve said your “I dos” and head to the art gallery or the outdoor skygarden for the cocktail hour back the same way the guests came in, your catering team and florist will stay to do a room flip and move the tables on the ceremony side.
After your guests return to find their seats for dinner, the space is transformed and ready for you. The “dance floor” is on the side where the tables were set in advance and the HD projector has your seating chart so it’s as easy as possible for your guests to get seated with the large projection instead of a small sign.
The reception will kick off with your guests surrounding your dance floor for any formal dances, and it keeps the dance floor full by starting all of the guests in that area already! It’s one of the smoothest-run spaces and you and your guests are sure to have an amazing time.

Want to see a real example of a wedding at Greenhouse Loft?
Read on to see Taylor and Erik’s modern, classic, Chicago wedding!
This February Chicago wedding was shockingly not that chilly and such a good time. Thankfully, we didn’t have any snow which made things a lot easier logistically! The ceremony and reception both took place at Greenhouse Loft and the couple took their photos at Lincoln Park Conservatory. You can definitely see the modern, classic look they were going for throughout the whole day! Their top priorities for the wedding were live music, lots of dancing, and being able to have some real fun with their family and friends. We were there as the wedding coordinators and we were so glad to help bring them exactly what they wanted for the day!
They started the day getting ready at their hotel. Taylor’s bridesmaids had made her a personalized book with letters and photos that surely was a tear jerker!
Their first look was in the shuttle actually! That’s a first for us, but they really wanted to utilize their time and didn’t want to figure out logistics inside the hotel. It also helped get the wedding party all in one place faster since there wasn’t an additional location for them to meet!
Taylor’s look was classic and modern - we loved the simple elegance of her whole look that didn’t need to go crazy, but still was so beautiful!
Lincoln Park Conservatory was a perfect spot to take photos to still have some lively greenery - we of course loved this as plant people too! The classic, modern elegance of all of the wedding party wearing black was top notch and really left an impact. Cailynn also did a fabulous job with the photography and you really can see the love and beauty of the day!
Taylor changed into sneakers for some photos, but put them back on when it was time for the ceremony. I thought it was smart to help keep her feet feeling good throughout the whole night!
The ceremony was really sweet and beautiful. They had their wedding party seated in the first few rows, which is really nice visually to emphasize the couple! It also would have likely been really cramped, so it was nice to have the wedding party sit back and enjoy the ceremony themselves!
After the ceremony was over, those heels came right back off! We definitely recommend keeping your feet in tact as much as possible for the dancing that will ensue!
Cocktail hour was in the art gallery in the room next door while we flipped the room for the reception. Their decor was minimal but really hit hard for that classic, modern look! The bud vases were gorgeous with the help of Flowers for Dreams. The table numbers also had their photos on them which is a nice, personal touch!
Another personalized touch was that Taylor and Erik hand wrote EACH guest a thank you letter - it was so sweet and SO cute!
All of the speeches were finished before dinner which made things nice and smooth for dinner - so many of them were so funny yet still so sweet!
We moved over to the dance floor after dinner and it was an amazing time! The people absolutely loved Bluewater Kings Band and truly everyone was on the dance floor going crazy! The couple’s love of live music was definitely prevalent and it definitely was a wild time!
One fun thing about Greenhouse Loft is the photo booth they have in-house, and it was definitely getting used up all night too!
Overall, we had an amazing time bringing everything together for Taylor and Erik. They were so incredibly sweet and so happy throughout the whole day. The personalized features and the modern look was absolutely beautiful and the fun that everyone had was something to remember for sure! We love seeing our couples so happy and enjoying their day with their family and friends on the dance floor.
If you need some help creating a wedding like this that your guests will enjoy with you, you can reach out to us here. We’d love to have more weddings like this, so if this is your vibe we would absolutely love to help you be truly present with your family and friends!
