The Space

Canvas is in Wheeling, Illinois which is about 27 miles northwest of Chicago. The space is broken into two main parts being indoors and outdoors. The venue is good for up to 300 guests and is perfect for a custom, personalized wedding experience. The venue is relatively new with it opening within the last 5 years, but the in-house production team has over 25 years of experience to make this modern, classy space work for your wedding day.

The Chandelier Room is the indoor space where all the magic really happens. This room is 10,000 square feet and can be divided up for a separate cocktail hour space with their curtains. This room already speaks for itself with all of the included lighting, but we also love the antique mirror walls, custom lounges, the large LED wall that really is a staple of the space, and the grand windows that bring in some natural lighting from the Outdoor Garden Terrace.

The Outdoor Garden Terrace is the perfect place for a wedding ceremony or cocktail hour that you want to have outside. This space is 8,000 square feet and has room for up to 275 guests for your outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour of your dreams. We have seen how beautiful the weddings can be out in this space and love even the little details like the swing from a tree!

This space is really polished and if you have seen other photos, you know that you really have free reign for creativity. Each even looks personalized in a way that you can’t get anywhere else. There are always 12 chandeliers that come with the space, but with the draping, lighting, and ability to transform this venue, you really are having a one-of-a-kind wedding when you have your wedding here.

There are also two wedding suites onsite for you to store your personal items or get ready if you add extra hours. We definitely love that you can spread out as needed in this wedding venue.

About Canvas

One cool thing about Canvas Venue is that they partner and are owned by Yanni Design Studio, which has their in-house studio in the building next-door! Yanni Design Studio was established in 1995 as a one-stop shop for all your wedding and event needs and is a family-owned production company. The fact that it is right next-door makes it really convenient to create and you don’t have to pay exorbitant delivery fees.

Canvas Venue has a preferred catering list to choose from that includes all kinds of styles that will perfect match with your vision. If you do want to look outside of their list, Canvas will need approval and there will be an additional fee if that is something you are set on for your wedding day. They are also BYOB but you can add their exclusive open bar package for ease and peace of mind with their bartenders and beverage service.

Canvas also does a lot of other events besides weddings, like corporate, mitzvahs, and more! We love seeing their social media with how unique each event is and how they all make a statement. The weddings that we have done here are always the ones where their guests are really wowed by how unique and luxurious Canvas feels.

Check out Madison and Austin’s September wedding!

A Modern Canvas Venue Wedding in Wheeling

September truly takes the cake for the best time to get married, and this is a great example!! This fall wedding truly was one of the most beautiful days - but not just because of the weather outside. Madison and Austin were one of the sweetest, happiest, most fun couples that we’ve had the pleasure to work with. Most of the day was spent at the Canvas Venue in Wheeling - which is a relatively new venue that will genuinely knock your socks off - but they spent the afternoon together at Chicago Botanic Garden for their first look and photos.

Getting Ready with Hair and Makeup at Canvas Venue

The day got started with hair and makeup at Canvas. The girls had some really cute PJs and slippers, but what really was great was the pearl robe that Madison had! You’ll definitely see some pearls throughout the whole wedding for a modern, classic feel.

We have to say we LOVED Madison’s shoes and details! The pearl detailing on the shoes, the pearl veil, and the pearl jewelry. Everything matched so beautifully and you could tell that all of the details were well-thought out!

First Look and Photos at Chicago Botanic Garden

The wedding party met up at Chicago Botanic Garden for Madison and Austin’s first look and photos. This first look had us tearing up because of how excited Austin was to see her! When Madison asked, “How are you?!” Austin said, “Better now” and it was the sweetest thing.

The couple opted to do their personal vows in private. It was a beautifully, sweet shared moment just for the two of them.

Madison and Austin had a pretty large wedding party which made for an awesome party vibe! They all were in black which was very elegant and matched the vibe of the day. The girls were also able to choose a style of the dress that they felt most comfortable in which is always nice to take their opinions into account.

One of our favorite photos of the whole day is usually any kind of grand exit and this one that they staged was so perfect. We love the excitement that everyone had for the whole day, and this really captured it perfectly in our opinion!

The weather was absolutely perfect - it really helped set the tone for such a perfect day. The weather really helped get some of the beautiful photos before it was time to get to the venue to get married.

Indoor Wedding Ceremony at Canvas

When you walked into the ceremony, you would be blown away with the beauty of the day. The hanging florals were such a lovely statement that got the guests so excited to celebrate. The lighting is something the venue definitely took into account when it was time for the ceremony, and every moment truly was breathtaking in this venue thanks to the in-house designer and decorator.

The ceremony processional doesn’t always stand out after seeing so many, but this one really hit hard. The song Madison had chosen was “The Vow” by RuthAnne, and she had us time the wedding party so that she entered at the biggest moment in the song to open the curtains which was really was iconic. We saved that song on Spotify after the wedding and it still gives us chills when it builds to “the moment”.

This wedding also featured the shortest ceremony we’ve ever had - it was 9 minutes from the start of the processional to the end of the recessional! Their main focus was to do exactly what was necessary for the ceremony to be legal and get straight to the reception. We absolutely loved it!

Okay, this might have actually been our favorite shot of the day. You can REALLY feel that love and excitement here!!

The room was flipped during cocktail hour into a stunning reception space. Many of the tables were pre-set and hidden to allow for time for this gorgeous setup. We truly will never forget this beautiful space!

Canvas Cake Cutting

The pearls showed another appearance on their cake, too! We always love a good cake cutting.

Madison and Austin kicked off an evening of fun on the dance floor with their choreographed first dance to “Lover” by Taylor Swift. The videos of this dance were some of our favorites too! Everyone watching was so enchanted by their dance.

Reception Dress and Suit Jacket Change

Madison and Austin both had an outfit change that we absolutely loved - it’s definitely nice to include both parties of the couple in this! The dress with the lovely large bow and the pearl gloves with the shoes you can see now really is better than any Pinterest board.

Open Dancing at Reception

And the dance floor truly was so busy all night! We always will tell couples that those LED foam sticks are a huge hit on every dance floor no matter what and honestly nothing could stop this crowd from having a good time.

The only thing that pulled this crowd off the dance floor was the photo booth - it was a huge hit! It’s also a great way to give your guests a favor without having to have a bunch of extra items to take home.

Overall, this wedding truly was one for the books! Everyone there was there to celebrate and have a good time. We absolutely adored how gorgeous everyone and everything looked and it will always live in our head! Madison and Austin threw an amazing party and really made sure to have a good time with their family and friends.
