7 Fun Dessert Alternatives Instead of a Wedding Cake for your Chicago Wedding

A lot of people feel that cake is out for weddings. Many people don’t like cake, so it’s nice to be able to have options for your wedding day. It’s currently very popular to add some kind of alternative desserts to your wedding day to make sure all of your guests enjoy something, so here is a list of common dessert alternatives you can turn to if you want something other than cake:

  1. Donuts

Donuts are a really popular alternative to cake that your guests will love. People don’t use donut walls as often, but serving donuts is a great way to not only provide a sweet dessert but also provide some sustenance to your guests that are drinking.

2. Cinnamon Buns/Cakes

I know The Bun Bar is a lovely spot to find some desserts that are unique and extra special! They have individually flavored options that will definitely be a huge hit with your guests who want something different.

3. Churros

Churros is along the same lines as the cinnamon buns - definitely different and definitely fun! You can have mini ones or have a food truck serve them, and your guests will definitely rave about it!

4. Chocolate Fountain

I don’t see it done often, but imagining a chocolate fountain with some strawberries and pastries to dip into it sounds divine!

5. Ice Cream

Ice cream comes with the logistics of keeping things cold, but a classic summer wedding would be great to keep things cool with a sweet treat.

7. Dessert Bar

Many people will opt to have MANY options available for your guests with a sweets table or dessert bar. This can include some tarts, chocolates, cupcakes, eclairs, cookies, mousse cups, parfaits - the possibilities are endless!

8. Cupcakes

If you still don’t want to give up on the idea of cake but you want smaller portions to spend a little less, cupcakes are the way to go! They will basically taste the same as the cake but you don’t have to worry about providing a fork which is great!

I myself had cake at my own wedding, but we went with some chocolate cake to mix it up a little. The most important thing to remember is to do something that you’re excited about and would like to eat - your guests will have their desserts or not and they will still enjoy your wedding day no matter what!
